Family and Group Visits

Family Visits

To cater for visiting families the museum provides baby changing facilities and toilets on both floors and prams and pushchairs may be left at reception (space dependent). The museum supports bottle feeding and breastfeeding in its galleries and tearooms. Please ask staff for bottle warming facilities. There are ‘pocket money friendly’ gifts available in the museum shop.

Monthly Quiz and Barney’s Trail

Our popular children’s quiz changes every month and families who answer all questions correctly can enter our monthly draw to win a prize from the museum shop. For under 5’s we also have Barney’s Trail taking young ones on a sensory adventure with our museum mascot Barney the Elephant. Ask at reception for quizzes and trails. Good luck!

Self Guided Visits

If you are visiting us as part of a holiday trip, community or adult group please phone or email our museum team to inform us of your visit. You can download our museum map HERE.

Guided Tours

The Museum regularly hosts large groups interested in the history of Barnstaple, North Devon Pottery, Shapland and Petter, Devon Archaeology, the North Devon Yeomanry and Barnstaple benefactor Mr Fredrick Rock. Guided tours by one of our expert staff members are available. Please contact us for availability and prices. For school, higher education and scout visits click on the website’s Learning section.
